Self portraits
Process:
Throughout all of the self portraits, it was difficult to take any record of all of my process. However, most of them consisted of similar processes. I don't consider myself being too aware of other mediums, so I decided to experiment. I wanted to incorporate different details that I normally wouldn't within my art. I used mediums such as watercolor, pen, pencil, and color pencils.
Experimentation:
Experimentation:
- Water color: For my two watercolor paintings, I wanted to experiment with its different purposes. I started playing around with the colors on a separate sketchbook and decided to use vibrant colors on my actual portraits. I later on realized that when blending, a lot of water needs to be utilized and I feel like I successfully was able to do that. Also, I had a white watercolor that I used to highlight certain areas that needed it or for the skin tone of the second portrait. Overall, I believe that they were my favorite portraits.
- Pen: I wanted to experiment the different ways of shading and the intensity of the pen. Many of the inspirations for this technique were very sketchy and messy looking. Therefore, that was the aesthetic that I was approaching.
- Pencil: This wasn't the first time I've used pencil for a portrait. However, I always found it very useful to practice those practical skills. It was very easy to shade due to the amount of practice that I had for it.
- Color Pencils: My color pencil self portrait was my Tim Burton inspired. I wanted to surely incorporate some sort of color to this self portrait and since I had not used color pencils since like freshmen year, I knew it was time to do so. I did not use any specific techniques for it since there wasn't much dimension that I was playing with. Therefore, I kind of wish that I would've played around a bit more with that, rather than keeping it two dimensional.
Still Life
Process:
I was not much familiar with the entire still life concept. However, I knew that I wanted to create my pieces in a sketchy manner. Once I completed my first still life, I realized how much it reminded me of German Expressionism. There is this sense of rawness with all of the pieces that I really enjoy and I knew for a fact that I wanted to incorporate it into my pieces. Lastly, I was not as satisfied with these pieces as I was with my self portraits simply because it was clear that I did not utilize all the time and effort as I did with the others.

ACT Questions
1. The cause-effect relationship between my inspirations and my artwork can be clearly identified through the mediums that I utilized. For example, I rarely work with color pencils, pens, or watercolor, but the different pieces that I used as inspiration utilized some of those mediums. Therefore, I was motivated to gain experience using them.
2. I did not focus on one author and there was not much of a thorough research done for this artwork. However, the different works that I looked into all had one thing in common and that was that they were all aesthetically pleasing. I was mainly focused on making the artwork look good, which is all I got from my inspirations.
3. A generalization that I can make from the limited research that I made was that many people are into detail. Although I incorporated detail to just a few of my pieces, I realized that most of the artworks that people find great are those with color or severe detail that intrigue the viewer.
4. The central idea of my research for my self portraits was to practice different mediums and also to make sure to incorporate some of my interest: just like the clearly Tim Burton inspired. For my still life's not much was researched, but the main idea was to incorporate my everyday life as simply as possible.
5. An inference that I made while looking for inspiration was that I am an artist who is attracted to modernism. Although I don't personally like to be labeled, it is definitely where my interests stand. Overall, this project helped me understand what I personally enjoy doing.
