La Loteria
Both my Block Print, and Dry Point, which you can take a look at by clicking the buttons below the picture on the left or on the drop down menu, are both inspired by this game named La Loteria. La Loteria is a game popularly played in Mexico, which was originally made in Spain. However, the most recognized version of lotería is the “Don Clemente Gallo” rendition, introduced (in Mexico) in 1887 by a French businessman, Don Clemente Jacques. Some of the objects found consisted of catholic content, which had some Catholics concerned due to the misuse of their scared symbols. This game is normally pulled out during a family get-together or holidays. The objective of the game is to mark down on your large card all the places being called by an individual who's job is to draw, and name every single card from a deck until someone gets a straight line or a full card. Everyone plays in a quarter, and the winner takes it all. In other words, the "Mexican" version of the good old American BINGO. I remember being a little girl who was always out-yelled by her peers who screamed their lungs out saying "LOTERIA!". It definitely brings back plenty of memories which I sometimes wish to relive.
